While staying with D & L in Beijing, I awoke one morning to the sound of a snore and breaking glass, one over the other, as if one noise.
P was already awake & I asked her what she'd heard. It seems the snore was me. She'd heard no other noise.
So I woke myself up snoring and hallucinated the sound of breaking glass at the same time.
Potentially, the sound of breaking glass, or any abrupt sound heard in that context could be a sleep/dream phenomenon. I experience very similar events. Ever notice how often you are falling asleep and the world around you is fairly quiet and then all of a sudden there is a lot of noise happening? This happens to me frequently as I will almost immediately upon achieving sleep start to dream (not always, but yes, frequently despite the usual stages of sleeping) and I find dreams are "noisy". Sometimes the noise is abrupt and "loud" enough to wake me, sometimes not. Cool phenomenon, nonetheless. Thanks btw for your detective work on Top of The Lake & Tormis. I'm just about to finish the series and wondered if there was a comercially available soundtrack and found your site.
ReplyDeleteHappy dreaming.
