A. Kostis

A few weeks back now, on the free CD that came with my copy of The Wire magazine (The Wire Tapper series), there was one stand out track - "Dertlidikos Horos" by A. Kostis.
This track appears on a compilation "Greek Rhapsody, Instrumental Music from Greece, 1905-1956", a 2CD set with book compiled by Tom Klein. I've yet to track down the compilation, but if it's of the standard of that simple guitar track, it'll be worth getting.
There are lots of these type of releases these days - extensively researched books & compilations of old tracks. They always seem to look fantastic & are very desirable items. The risk is that you play the music once & just keep it as a novelty item.
As for A. Kostis, I gather that he died in 1943 & his real name was Bezos. He was a big fan of Hawaiian music having a band called Bezo's Hawaiian Guitar Ensemble during the 1930s!
World music fusion 30s style.
(The reason for mentioning this now is because that track has appeared twice on my iPod today while playing it on shuffle.)
